Getting the right PPH interventions to the right patients requires more than evidence-based guidelines – it takes coordinated action, strong partnerships and lessons learned from the frontlines. Marking the launch of a special International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics supplement, this webinar from the AMPLI-PPHI project explores how professional societies alongside other partners are working together, closing the gap between global ambition and local reality in the fight to end maternal deaths from PPH.
An independent evaluation of FIGO’s Leadership Development Initiative: Removing barriers to effective access and coverage of maternal healthcare (LDI:REACH) has found that the programme helped drive meaningful improvements in maternal and newborn health across Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan. The three-and-a-half-year programme closed at the end of April 2026, but its transformative impact will endure.
The importance of investing to end Obstetric Fistula
FIGO Fistula Fellow Dr Akinyosoye Ajiboye shares his journey into fistula surgery, the importance of specialised care and the systemic challenges that he faces.
He also discusses the importance of partnerships with organisations such as the Fistula Foundation and why investing in women’s health means investing in women’s futures, their wellbeing and their place within society.
Our new course is aimed at closing gender gaps in health leadership. It equips OBGYNs and other health professionals with practical skills to advance equity across health system leadership.
By equipping health professionals with skills to lead more inclusively, FIGO aims to support more equitable health systems – and ultimately, better outcomes for women and communities worldwide.
We are pleased to share an early view of the programme, anchored by the theme: Driving innovation, equity and excellence in women’s health. The Congress will be structured around four main cross-cutting themes: advocacy and health systems strengthening, pain, anaemia and obesity.
See what is taking shape and how it aims to improve outcomes for women worldwide.
Breaking the silence around abortion in Côte d’Ivoire

By reducing stigma, training healthcare workers and encouraging open conversations, more women are now able to seek safe care and advice without fear.
Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of mortality among children under five and a major contributor to lifelong morbidity, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries. A new paper in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO), developed by the FIGO Committee on Preterm Birth, reviews current evidence and global experiences and calls for urgent action to elevate PTB as a priority in maternal and newborn health.
